Health & Travel Certificates

If you are traveling across state lines or internationally, the USDA requires you to obtain a health certification from a federally accredited veterinarian who can verify that your pet is free of illness, disease, parasites, and is up-to-date on vaccinations. Proof of rabies vaccination is required by law.

Traveling With Your Pet?

If you plan on traveling with your pet(s), there may be animal health requirements specific for your destination - and our team is here to help!

Up-to-date travel certificates are almost always required for your pet to cross borders safely and legally.  As soon as you know your travel details, contact us to assist with the pet travel process. Requirements for travel may include meeting specific time frames for obtaining a health certificate, updating vaccinations, diagnostic testing, or administration of medications/ treatments.

When requesting a travel certificate, we make sure that your pet is:

  • Emotionally stable and healthy to travel without fear or danger
  • Vaccinated under the guidelines of your destination
  • Free from disease and infection

In addition, we also recommend that you reach out to the airline company you will be traveling with in order to request any other specific information relating to travel certificates for pets. Certain airlines have specific guidelines, so it's imperative to make sure you are following all of the proper travel requirements. Typically, you should receive a travel certificate 10 days prior to your travel date (although this may vary airline to airline).

When traveling with your pet, we strongly suggest they fly with you in the airplane cabin where they're likely to feel more comfortable and safe, rather than in steerage where they are isolated away from you. We understand many pets may not meet the airplane cabin size requirement and the only option may be in steerage. If this is the case, be sure to thoroughly and properly hydrate your pet in their crate and avoid travel during cold or hot temperature seasons.
