South Kendall Animal Hospital

Diagnostic Care

Pets cannot tell you what hurts. Without diagnostic testing, countless conditions may go undetected. South Kendall Animal Hospital utilizes a wide range of diagnostic services to most accurately diagnose your pet’s complete health. Highly trained Certified Veterinary Technicians work in the lab on a daily basis to quickly and accurately analyze and return test results. Faster diagnoses allows treatment to begin sooner! We commonly perform bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal exams, skin scrapings, and much more!

Bloodwork

Bloodwork is a preventative tool that aids in diagnosis prior to outward symptoms. By pinpointing areas of concern, our skilled team is able to protect your pet from life-threatening conditions. We test for a wide range of abnormalities ranging from parasite testing to in-depth organ functioning.

At South Kendall Animal Hospital, we recommend bloodwork during annual exams to compare current health to established baseline values. Along with preventative care, blood is tested during emergency situations, prior to anesthesia administration, and to monitor certain medications.

Fecal Analysis & Deworming

Intestinal parasites can wreak havoc on your pet’s insides, but are easily treated if diagnosed early. Roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, whipworms, coccidia, and giardia commonly infect puppies and kittens, but dogs and cats can also be infected. Many parasites are transmissible to humans! Protect your entire family.

We recommend annual fecal exams to ensure your pet is safe from parasite infestation. We will examine fresh fecal material under a microscope for microorganisms and eggs.

Digital Radiography

Digital radiography instantly captures images of your pet’s insides. X-Rays are invaluable as they produce instant results, clear images, and are easily shared with you and specialists. At South Kendall Animal Hospital, our digital radiology services are safe, painless, and non-invasive!

X-Rays can detect a wide range of conditions such as tumors, foreign objects, intestinal blockages, bladder stones, bone fractures and breaks, chronic arthritis, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, spinal cord diseases, cancer, and more.

Ultrasound

Our facility is equipped with ultrasound equipment that allows us to look inside your pet’s organs. By visually assessing internal bodily systems, areas of pain and concern are identifiable. We assess tendons, muscles, joints, and internal organs to pinpoint the core of pain and discomfort. This is completely non-invasive and affordable. If your pet needs an abdominal ultrasound or CAT scan, we have a specialist available for both in-house! This allows us to diagnose and treat your pet much faster with great accuracy.

Urinalysis

By testing a pet’s urine, we are able to identify disorders such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease, and diabetes. If results are abnormal, follow-up testing may be necessary.

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

Our pets can develop and suffer from the same heart conditions as we can. We use advanced EKG technology to monitor heart rhythms and impulses to ensure your pet’s heart is functioning properly. If you notice coughing, labored breathing, lethargy, or weakness, give us a call.

This diagnostic test is pain-free, non-invasive, and does not require anesthesia! One of our trained veterinary professionals will gently lay your pet on their side and place electrodes on specific areas of the body. This process only takes a few minutes and we will be able to quickly review the results with you.

Skin Scrapes/Impressions

Skin scraping is a technique used to diagnose dermatological conditions. Our veterinarians will gently scrape the surface of the skin with a scalpel and then conveniently analyze the sample under a microscope at our in-house lab. Often times, this test is used to detect mites, which are microscopic and cannot be seen by the eyes alone

Gram Stains

Gram staining is a common test used to identify the presence and cause of bacterial infection by coloring bacterial cells red or violet. Affordable and rapidly analyzed, we are able to determine if bacteria is gram-positive or gram-negative. The results of this diagnostic technique allows our veterinarians to properly treat bacterial infections with necessary antibiotics.
