Dr. Theresa Weir
DVM, Medical Director, & OwnerOriginally from Grand Ledge, Michigan, Dr. Theresa Weir always knew she’d trade snow boots for sandals one day. After earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University in 2007, she wasted no time heading south to sunny Florida. That same year, she joined South Kendall Animal Hospital, where she found a team that shared her values of teamwork, compassion, and high-quality medicine. She became Medical Director in 2017 and later the hospital’s owner in 2020.
Dr. Weir’s professional interests include feline medicine, dentistry, and surgery. She has completed extensive continuing education focused on veterinary dentistry and takes pride in advancing both her skills and her team’s knowledge in this area. She is deeply committed to providing exceptional medical care, building long-term relationships with clients, and prioritizing client education to help pet owners make informed decisions and provide the best possible lives for their animals. She believes that collaboration among doctors is an integral part of South Kendall’s approach to medicine — fostering the exchange of ideas, continuous learning, and the delivery of the highest standard of care.
A two-time breast cancer survivor, Dr. Weir’s resilience and gratitude shape her approach to both life and medicine. She brings warmth, empathy, and humor to her work — believing that laughter and perspective are essential parts of good medicine for both pets and people.
At home, she shares life with her two kids, two cats (Bones and Jack), and one dog (Dash) — who can often be spotted behind the front desk auditioning for the role of Lead Receptionist. Outside the hospital, Dr. Weir stays just as busy — balancing coffee in one hand, a cat in the other, and cheering from the sidelines at her kids’ baseball games and wrestling meets.
